Busy Weekend

I used the longer weekend and the absence of my boyfriend for a little bit of sewing. In fact I haven´t done much else.

The first dress is a very easy pattern I made it as one of my 12 around the year series, where I make one piece of garment each month to keep up my motivation. I love the colors of this dress. It was a easy fun project, and I like how it turned out.

But as you remember I had very important plans for my holliday wardrope and in fact I already finished two of the three items:

For this dress I used IKEA cotton. I really like the print. It is so nice for autumn and easy to combine with bright colors.

And the Cape of this months Burda. Taking pictures was not very easy. It was so sunny and warm, not very good for taking pictures of cold weather clothing.

Normally Burda Patterns have a very good fit for me, so I didn´t measure the pattern before, never needed to. But this one was far to big. I could have made it at least one size smaller. Furthermore, because of the huge masses of fabric it cost me two needles and nearly my sewing machine.
I love it! I just can´t wait now for autumn to come.

5 weeks to go...

... and then I´m on holliday. But I have NOTHING to wear! Well, that is not actually true, but I wanted to make some travel pieces to take with me. And then unmotivation hit me, I wanted to make so many summer garments first, but where was the summer? Now I´m heading straight for autumn.
Ok, I now have to shorten my list of desired pieces and get to work. I decided for:

Number 1: the Cape of the august Burda. I fell in love at once.

Number 2: The Celeste dress. I love that fabric and wanted to make the pattern for such a long time now.

Number 3: That cute dress from Meine Nähmode Jan 2011. I have a very cute autumn fabric for it.

To do: Ordering fabric for 1 and 2. I can prepare the patterns for all of them and start with 3.

Wish me luck.

Fairy Tale Dress

Sorry for not posting anything for such a long time.
I made this dress already two weeks ago, but wanted to get better pictures for that post. Today it was raining the whole time, so I gave up on taking good pictures. The ok ones have to do now.

This project was very important for me. I wanted to make a dress for concerts and markets for several years now. But first I lacked the skills, then I couldn´t decide on a pattern and after that I was too scared that I would mess it up. Well, now it´s done and I´m very happy with it. I already wore the dress to a concert. Just by the way, it doesn´t have so many wrinkles in reality, just a bad picture.

I thought very long about what pattern I would use and whether or not I wanted this dress authentic. In the end I decided for a fantasy style dress inspired by the Eowyn dress from Lord of the rings. Mainly because I just fell in love with the blue fabric, which is not authentic at all.

Pattern: Burda 123 4/09, I changed the neckline, sleeves and omitted the empire seam. At the back I included a cording. I made a muslin for the first time ever to try out all the changes I made on the pattern. Normally I´m far to lazy for that.
Fabric: some kind of tightly woven cotton from IKEA and china satin from  Stoff&Stil.
